Introduction
The word surgery sounds scary to a lot of people but over here at Sethi Virdi make sure that you leave us with a smile and return with one as well. Dental implant surgery is a different technique that replaces the roots of your teeth with metal, screw like posts and also replaces missing or damaged teeth with new artificial ones that look real and works like one too. This surgery offers a fantastic alternative to dentures or any bridgework that hasn’t fit well.
The surgery performed differs on the type of implant and the condition of one’s jawbone structure. The ultimate plus point of implants is that it acts as a solid support system for our teeth, but this technique requires the bone to get entirely healed around the implant, and due to this particular condition the process takes a considerable time-space of several months. But the result is solid, and we at Sethi Virdi make sure that the process leaves you in a state of happiness and a beautiful smile.
WHY DO PEOPLE GO FOR DENTAL SURGERY?
This surgery is the best option for people who have various dental problems. These implants are placed surgically into your jawbone, where they serve as roots to the missing teeth. The titanium used in the implant fuses with your jawbone, which results in no slipping of implants nor noise is made and ensures that bone damage is not caused, but these do occur in the case of fixed bridgework or dentures. The materials used don’t decay like our own teeth showing that it is solid quality-wise.
This might be the right option for you if you are missing a tooth or a couple of them at the same time, and we all know the beauty of having all our teeth in the correct order and shape. It leaves an everlasting impression. If your jawbone has reached the stage of total growth, this process is again a savior in this case, as you can go for this surgery regarding this problem. People are unwilling to wear dentures due to their painful process and its movability, but the dental implant surgery process is the exact opposite of it and a safe option at the same time. People with speech problems are welcomed to use it and have a better view of life after this life-changing process. People who are willing to commit several months to this process can enjoy its unique benefits, and it has an impact on everyday life. People who don’t smoke tobacco have a significant advantage, and they too can install it into their teeth.
RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SURGERY
Every surgery comes with its side effects. The problems are rare, and when they occur, it is usually a minor one and is treated with ease. They might cause an infection where the implantation has taken place. Injury can be forced to the nearby tooth or blood vessels.
Nerve damage can also be caused, which results in numbness or tingling of your teeth, gums, lips, or chin. When the implant is placed in the upper jaw, it causes sinus problems in your sinus cavities.
PREPARATION
The planning process involves consulting with many specialists, which includes a doctor who is specialized in the conditions of the mouth, jaw, and face (oral and maxillofacial surgeon), a dentist who treats structures that support your teeth which are gums and bones (periodontist), and also a dentist who designs and fits artificial teeth(prosthodontist) and sometimes an ENT(ear, nose, throat)specialist.
Some process to undergo before taking up the dental implant surgery
- Dental X-rays and 3D images of your teeth will be taken & models of your teeth would also be made.
- Speak to your doctor about any medical condition and medications taken by you, including OTC(over-the-counter)drugs and various supplements. People having heart conditions or orthopedic implants would be prescribed antibiotics before the surgery to prevent infection.
- You can have personalized treatment plan according to your jawbone condition as well as the number of teeth you have.
To control the pain caused, various anesthesia options are used, including local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia. Talking to a dental specialist is the best option, and we here at Sethi Virdi are always there.
STEPS THAT TAKE PLACE IN THE PROCESS
- Removal of damaged teeth
- Preparation of jawbone(grafting)
- Placement of dental implant
- Bone growth and healing
- Placement of Abutment
- Placement of Artificial teeth
IS BONE GRAFTING REQUIRED?
It is only required when the jaw bone is too soft, and it takes place before the surgery. That’s because our chewing action exerts pressure on our bone, and if it doesn’t support the implant, then the surgery would fail. Some materials include natural bone graft or a synthetic one that supports structures for new bone growth.
PROCESS OF IMPLANTATION
The oral surgeon makes a cut to open the gum and exposes your bone, where holes are drilled into the bone where the dental implant metal post will be placed. During the healing phase of the implant, you can use removable dentures to maintain the form and function. you will need a couple of months for the healing and osseointegration( the jawbone to fuse with the implants) to take place which acts as a solid base for the teeth which is replaced when the process is over, you may need additional surgery to place the abutment, and after it is placed, the gums should heal for two weeks before the artificial teeth can be attached.
Then, you can choose your artificial teeth, which come in 2 options: fixed and removable. But in the case of selection, you can't remove the tooth for cleaning nor during sleep.
AFTER-EFFECTS OF PROCEDURE
- Swelling of gums & face
- Minor Bleeding
- Pain at the implant site
